Our ancestors crossed an ocean they never chose. This coat carries every crossing that came after.
The Crossing is a floor-sweeping kimono coat pieced together by hand from authentic coffee sacks that traveled from five nations: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, and Tanzania. These are not printed fabrics. Each panel is cut from a real sack and placed on purpose, so the coat shows the country each sack came from.
Red Veracruz seals circle the wide kimono sleeves. Honduran high-grown marks and the La Flor star run across the back. Kenyan and Tanzanian export stamps and a Rainforest Alliance seal wrap the sides. Down the center front, the red and slate stripes of a Guatemalan sack form a panel split by an oversized jumbo zipper, industrial and bold, made to be seen.
Open the sleeves or let the front fall open and the red silk lining shows. It is the red thread of From the Sack to the Silk™: the blood of the sharecroppers who came before, worn now with pride. Behind the wearer, a six-foot train sweeps the floor, and every step moves the story forward.
